Qingming holiday travel hits 126 million as nature getaways surge

China saw 126 million domestic trips over the three-day Qingming Festival holiday, up 6.3% from a year earlier, according to data released Monday by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Tourism revenue reached 57.55 billion yuan (around US$8 billion), a 6.7% year-on-year increase, as more travelers opted for quick escapes and outdoor experiences.
While Qingming remains a traditional time for tomb sweeping and paying respects to ancestors, this year’s holiday also saw a growing appetite for rural retreats and nature-based travel. Road trips, cycling, and hiking were among the top choices, reflecting a continued shift toward more flexible and wellness-focused ways to explore.
